Tonight we were to have played two games of Softball. When I was on my way to the batting cages, I got the call that the 6:30PM game had been cancelled. That gave me time to eat dinner before the 7:30PM game. Rachel, Ryan and I went to Panda Express, and we saw there Tiffany Tice and Anna. It was nice to see Tiffany purchase a meal for someone who looked homeless. I think she really blessed that lady. After dinner, we went back to Lancaster park.

The game started five minutes late and we started strong in the first inning it was like 14-0. Overall we won by 28 to 8. I hit well, 7 for 7, all singles. I do not have the strength or speed to get much more than that. I like that I did not walk or pop out. It was cold, but I had four layers and wore gloves when idle.

Day 1 of the 12 Days of Fitness.

Last night, we again played softball. I had to wear four layers to keep warm. The game was early (6:30pm) and that allowed me with Ryan and Rachel to attend a Christmas party after the game at the Hunt’s house, (freinds from church). The game was good for us, we looked like a team. We hit eight runs in the first inning. I hit three of five, I walked once and hit one straight at the first basemen. The final score was 23-8.

Tonight, we played softball which due to a bye two weeks ago and last week being rained out, it seemed like a long time since we played. And it showed. We lost (our norm), but it was due to having one bad inning, were we gave away 10 runs. The score was something like 23 to 15, not that it mattered. But, I did OK, I hit three singles and one pop out. I did drop a ball for tagging out a runner, but the throw was a bit late.

Due to raining in California, (rare I know), softball was cancelled. With the rain, I did not run either. Oh well…

Well, tonight we met again to play slow-pitch softball. Our game was 7:45 on field 5. At bat, I walked, and poped out twice. We lost 23-22. I was warm for winter ball. I keep expecting it to get cold.

 I was on second base and went to tag up. I did something to my left angle. It is hurt, hopefully not serious. I plan to run Sunday morning, so I will see what happens.

Last night our team player softball and we did well. We did not win, but that is expected. It was a qualifying game. I hit well, three singles and one pop-up out. We lost 17-16. I have a slight thigh pull. It is OK, but does talk to me.

Friday night was a qualifing game for the Lancaster City Parks and Recs for softpitch or for the new season of Winter League. I have not played in four weeks and did fair. At bat, I walked, singled, poped out and singled.

 We won, we that is right we won 14-11. This would be the first time we won since I joined. It was fun. It was not cold and the sunset was great. The skys have smoke from the Southern California fires. It is not bad to breath were we are.

Last night I played again. It has been three weeks. I had missed the first one by going to my high school reunion and we had two byes. I played catcher and hit only one of four. I was not happy with my performance. I need some better shoes (cleats). I slipped all over the place.

We lost again, this time 30-10. We have not won one yet.

We have a sponsor for our slow pitch softball team. The AV Internet Cafe. They must have never seen us play. We have lost our third straight game. This time the score was 13 to 7 (best that I remember). I had three at bats and two hits. I did pull a thigh muscle, just a bit. It is talking to me, but it does not seem that bad.

Before the game, I looked over on another field to see this guy that looked alot like Jim Avery. It was and Danny Rossmango too. They were playing in a church league for Central Christian Church, my old church. Danny is the one who mentioned climbing Mt. Whitney to me. He climbed on June 28th with folks from the FAA. And still wants to climb it again with me on Sept 20th. It was good to see these guys, I knew Danny played, but this was Jim’s first time with the team.

My first slow pitch softball game was Friday night after spending the entire day at Zuma Beach with our Junior High Schoolers from church. I arrived about 1/2 hour early and met up with the team. I warmed up my arm and swung the bat. They placed me as catcher (I am the second oldest [48] on the team, the pitcher is the oldest [52]). I batted fifth and my first at bat I got a hit and drove in two runs. I ended up the night batting for 3 out of 4 at bats with four runs. I do not have power to hit the ball long, my best is to hit over the heads of the infielders and bounce to the outfielders. We lost the game, 17 to 11.
